Suesstastical Week!

Dr.Seuss week is one of the most fun weeks of the year in first grade.  This year we celebrated this wonderful author by having dress up days that coordinated with his books.  We also had some very fun Seuss activities throughout the week.

One of our super fun dress up days was hat day.  On this day we read the book 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins.  We also wrote about our hats and compared them to the hats in the story.
Another fun activity to go along with this book was a comprehension puzzle.  The students drew their favorite part from the book into a puzzle template.  Once they had their pieced cut out they could go around the room trading with others and completing other puzzles.  Once they completed a partner's puzzle they had to tell what that picture was from and what was happening in that part of the story.

On Cat in the Hat day we dressed in all red, white, and black.  I somehow did not manage to get a picture this day!  We used this Cat in the Hat template to write all the story details for comprehension practice.

Friday we celebrated The Lorax with mustaches!!  This story gave us a great opportunity to talk about how important it is to take care of our Earth which we will do more of on Earth Day!
